It scares me that suddenly I like Democratic candidate Howard Dean. He recently uttered that Democratic party must court Southerners who display the symbol of the Confederacy in their pickup trucks if they are to win. Suddenly everybody jumps on him and calls him a racist. The Confederate Flag is part of a very sad and unfortunate history. To ban it to be shown, flown or discussed is no different than what Stalin dictated in the Soviet Union, Hitler in Germany, and Saddam Hussein in Iraq when they demanded that their revisionist interpretations of history be the "only" and "correct" version of history. I've said it in the past, and I say it now, "Those Who Refuse To Recognize The Mistakes Of The Mistakes Of The Past, Are Sure To Repeat Them." Displaying the Confederate Flag is NOT Racism (or Racist) and any interpretation of it being a racist symbol by itself is stretching things. We need to REMEMBER the mistakes of the Civil War and NOT repeat them, just as we cannot forget the events leading up to and including Jewish holocaust.

However....I digress. At the "Rock The Vote" debate in order to score points the Democratic presidential candidates wanted him to recant his statement. Howard Dean refused. He refused to budge on what he said by saying, “IT’S a racist symbol but I also think the Democratic Party has to be a big tent,” Dean said Tuesday night, refusing to recant his statement that the party must court Southerners who display the symbol of the Confederacy in their pickup trucks. “Poor white people need to vote their economic interest,” he said. A politician with backbone, perhaps? I'm watching with great interest......
